For the record, I am no fan of Chris Matthews. That aside, it was an opportunity for Stewart Rhodes - a Vet and Constitutional lawyer - to put forth some of the Oath Keepers agenda.
You can't help but notice how it's always Matthew's objective to discredit as opposed to discuss the issues. Oh, by the way, Oathkeepers has nothing to do with the so-called "Patriot Movement". I don't know where that came from.
PART 1 OF 2: Darling of right-leaning pundits attacks promoters, says Glenn Beck 'was kissing Bush's booty and now he's counting his change'
In a time of crisis, who can the people trust? Their political leadership, or fellow citizens?
Concerned the answer to that question might be turning into "neither," Yale-educated ex-soldier and former Ron Paul organizer Stewart Rhodes hatched an idea that's grown beyond his wildest imagination.
Now a darling of the conservative media for his military and law enforcement activist group "Oath Keepers," Rhodes is pursued by fawning tea party organizers and promoted by people like Glenn Beck, Matt Drudge, Rush Limbaugh, Pat Buchanan and even Watergate burglary planner G. Gordon Liddy.

I just wanted to let you guys know I'm doing my best to promote the Daily Paul and Oathkeepers here in Afghanistan.
I'm heading to Kandahar soon for a few days and I'll be bringing my DVDs (thanks to Ron @ OneDollarDVDProject) there to show some guys I know there and to leave them behind to spread (hopefully like wildfire!)
I also wanted to leave you guys with a photo op I did today.
I wear both an Oath Keeper and Three Percent tab on my kit and on my left shoulder every time I leave the wire.
My CO even asked me what those two meant. I gave him a brief explanation and liked them both. My squad leader liked them too saying "Maybe I'm an oath keeper and three percenter".
More and more people from my unit are starting to come around, a lot more then I ever hoped for. Eventually I'll "leak" the videos to the other companies out here maybe even to the American contractors on the FOB.

I can only guess the number of times I've heard the song "Taps". The total would have to be in the hundreds. Yet I never thought the bugle instrumental actually had words. Lo and behold it actually does!
Here are some versions that have been written over the years since the Civil War when it was composed:
The original version was purely instrumental, but there have been several later lyrics added. The first, written by Horace Lorenzo Trim, is shown below:
Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.
Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies
All is well, safely rest;
God is nigh.
Then goodnight, peaceful night;
Till the light of the dawn shineth bright.
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, goodnight.
The other popular version, penned and harmonized by famed composer Josef Pasternack, is:
Love, sweet dreams!
Lo, the beams of the light Fairy moon kissed the streams,
Love, Goodnight!
Ah so soon!
Peaceful dreams!
Another verse, printed in a publication sponsered by the 'Project Liberty Ship' (Liberty Ship: John W. Brown)
Thanks and Praise For our days Neath the Sun, Neath the stars, Neath the sky As we go, This we know God is nigh
Another set of lyrics, used in a recording made by John Wayne about the song, goes like this:
Fading light
Falling night
Trumpet call, as the sun, sinks in fright
Sleep in peace, comrades dear,
God is near.
To my Dad, Uncle Jack, and cousin Gregg. Thanks for your service.

My understanding is there's an Oath Keepers meeting tonight in Union County. Is that something you'll be at, MountainGuy?

MountainGuy, one of my friends from Atlanta came up to attend the Oath Keepers meeting, held at the Civic Center on Tuesday. I tagged along with him and attended also. It was very informal, yet a lot of information was shared about Oath Keepers recent activities. Several of the attendees were from Blairsville, like I was. My understanding is that we don't necessarily have to be active or former military or police, although by far the majority are.

I don't recall anyone specifically from Towns there, but District 2 covers Fannin, Union, Towns, Rabun, Lumpkin, White, Habersham, and Stephens counties. The meeting this past Tuesday was a District 2 meeting.
BTW, Citizen Associate member status is what folks like us are called who aren't former or active service members but still want to join.

Would be nice if we had the troops to secure our borders. How long before Texas and the other border States are invaded?
A number of people have offered to help the police take back the state from narco terrorists. In response, the Pinal County Sheriffs Office issued the following press release:
PCSO Response to Citizen Offers of Assistance
With the recent national attention brought about by the signing of Arizona S.B. 1070 into law, the recent shooting of a Pinal County Sheriffs Office Deputy and the spate of national media attention focusing on the serious illegal alien situation in Pinal County, our office has been literally flooded with offers of assistance from citizens around the state and the nation.
The Sheriffs Office is appreciative of the offers which have come from so many patriotic and concerned citizens who are willing to come to Pinal County Arizona at their own expense and put themselves at our disposal to assist in enforcement and apprehension efforts.
The Pinal County Sheriffs Office has no authority to restrict or prohibit any citizen in their freedom to travel to Arizona, nor do we desire to do so. That said, we are not in a position to accept such offers due to a variety of reasons.
The Sheriffs Office is involved in a number of cooperative interdiction and enforcement efforts with local, state and federal agencies with the goal of gaining and maintaining control of the known smuggling corridors within Pinal County.
The self-insertion of well-meaning, non-uniformed, citizens into this area would potentially expose those citizens to potential extreme hazard from contact with bad actors. In addition, the presence of well-meaning citizens in the area of operation would raise the potential of a ‘friendly fire or a mistaken encounter with friendly forces scenario, in which enforcement personnel assigned to the area may not recognize a patriotic citizen in a volatile or high-stress situation.
The Sheriffs Office appreciates that so many supportive Americans are willing to sacrifice of their safety, their funds and of their time to stop this criminal activity, yet we must clearly state that we can not accept any of these offers to assist in our developing efforts.
If there were to be a change in status or some other unforeseen circumstance, we know that many citizens stand ready, willing and able to respond to a call to rally and assist.
Our Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu has been an outspoken leader on this issue. Two months ago, Sheriff Babeu stood with 10 local Police Chiefs and Senator McCain in calling on President Obama to immediately deploy 3,000 soldiers to secure our Arizona border. The President announced the deployment of only 1,200 three weeks ago and there is still no action. We must deploy armed soldiers, build the double barrier fence and end catch and release.
Once again, thank you for your patriotism.
Steve Henry,
Chief Deputy
Pinal County Sheriffs Office
PINAL COUNTY, AZ A group of citizens plans to arm themselves with heavy weaponry and patrol the Vekol Valley area of Pinal County, looking for drug smugglers entering the country. They plan to conduct their patrol operation from 3:00pm Saturday to 3:00pm Sunday.
Were going to block off the narcoterrorists that come up through this area, said Mesa resident Jason J.T. Ready, who is organizing the gathering.
Ready says volunteers are coming from all over Arizona, and even out of state, to support the effort.
This is the Minuteman Project on steroids, Ready explained. Weve got people with assault weapons. We will use lawful, deadly force where appropriate.

Wisconsin Oath Keepers hope to recruit military, law enforcement to take their oaths
Story posted Thursday at 11:40 a.m.

A new so-called "patriot group" has been formed in Wisconsin, one that is recruiting law enforcement and members of the military. Mike Simonson reports from Superior.
This group joins a list of seven other patriot groups in Wisconsin, groups that the Southern Poverty Law Center says aren't hate or racist groups, but are pledged to prevent the rise of a "new world order".
The Oath Keepers make ten promises, based on the U.S. Constitution, but each oath begins with "We will not obey any order"...for instance, to disarm the American people. It's aimed at law enforcement and military people because they have all pledged to uphold the Constitution. That's what interested Wisconsin Oath Keepers acting President Larry Gamble. He says there are 400 members in Wisconsin, from Milwaukee to Superior in loosely organized local groups.
And unlike accusations from the Southern Poverty Law Center, Gamble says they're not getting ready to take action against the federal government.
"They're looking at it from the standpoint that these are people who have the background, have the training to be some sort of enforcer and that's the exact opposite of what our own mindset is. I forget who said it first but somebody said the Oath Keepers are the stand down organization. We're there to talk to people, to get people thinking."
